The French SME "Aérophile" has developed an outdoor air purification device, called Para-PM. As part of an experimental project in real conditions, 10 purifiers have been installed in the courtyard of the school "Victoire" in the 9th arrondissement of Paris since June 2023. The results have just been published, while the same system must clean the air in the Athletes' Village during the Olympic Games.
It’s a successful bet. After a 12-month test period, the “Para-PM” system developed by the start-up "Aérophile" made it possible to reduce air pollution by 30% on average in the courtyard of the Victoire school, in Paris, when the devices are turned on.
During this experiment, the 10 purifiers operated for a total of 125 days, including 43 days with pollution above 15 µg/m³, the threshold set by the WHO.
The devices were programmed to operate when the students were in the playground, i.e. 2 hours 15 minutes per day. Six Pollutrack pollution sensors were also installed by an external laboratory, in the school to monitor the concentration of PM2.5 and PM 10 in real time: on the street side, to know the local ambient pollution, and in the courtyard to measure the effectiveness of the device.
The experiment was carried out as part of a partnership with Ademe, the Town Hall of the 9th arrondissement and Aérophile.
The system must now prove itself in the Athletes' Village, as part of the Olympic Games.
