Researchers from CNRS and INSERM have established an almost linear correlation between fine particle pollution and mortality linked to covid-19. Published in the journal “Science of the Total Environment”, this study breaks new ground in the problem of government inaction in terms of air quality management.
We perhaps finally know why in France, the large cities in the west have been relatively spared from deaths linked to serious forms of Covid-19 compared to cities like Paris or Milan. According to Jean-Baptiste Renard, research director at the CNRS and co-leader of the study interviewed by Le Monde, “it is the most polluted cities that have experienced the highest mortality rates”.
