There is a primary reason for this: the drastic fall in human activities has led to a drop in pollution on a global scale. “For road traffic, it’s 40% less nitrogen dioxide (NO2),” explains Vincent-Henri Peuch, head of the atmosphere at Copernicus, the European Earth monitoring program. In addition to proving that man can significantly act on his greenhouse gas emissions - which could be encouraging in the fight against climate change - this less pollution is not necessarily good news in terms of spread of the coronavirus and questions as part of an exit from confinement.
